The World’s First Superyacht Transformed from an Aircraft Carrier with Incredible Interchangeable Decks

We are accustomed to seeing aircraft carriers in combat readiness, with fierce fighter aeroplanes poised on the deck. What if we were to see a completely distinct image instead? Not merely a tranquil-appearing one that invites passengers to total relaxation and pure indulgence, but even more daring.

Not only would the Noah Twins Carrier be the world’s first aircraft carrier converted into a yacht, but it would also be constructed with interchangeable decks, straight out of a science fiction movie. According to the Studio, the design would be comparable to a Swiss Army weapon, with the ability to switch between a landing strip and a golf course. Yes, there would still be a landing strip, but for helicopters and air taxis rather than fighter aircraft. Because why not, the nine-hole golf course could also be converted into a ski slope using artificial snow.

The ambitious undertaking is not new, but its realisation has recently moved closer. Zenger reports that Udo Stern, a German entrepreneur who is also part of a project called Düsseldorf Initiative, is working on getting investors in the project to join forces and purchase a former aircraft carrier that could bring the Noah Twins concept to reality.

This venerable aircraft carrier, named Foch, served the French Navy from 1963 to 2000. This warship, the second in the Clemenceau class, has an impressive length of 543 feet (165.5 metres) and a width of 97 feet (29.5 metres), making it ideal for this massive innovative undertaking. After 2000, Brazil purchased it and renamed it Sao Paolo; it was decommissioned nearly a decade later. It appears to have been recently acquired by a Turkish company and is in danger of being demolished.

Will Foch be able to be saved and begin a second existence as an opulent yacht? It is still undetermined. However, the concept of repurposing warships and giving them an entirely new career should undoubtedly gain traction.

Steven Spielberg’s ‘Seven Seas’: The Farewell to His 282-Foot Superyacht

The renowned film director has finally sold his enormous 282-foot yacht last week to an undisclosed buyer, as reported by Merle Wood & Associates. While the brokerage firm didn’t specify the exact sale price, the vessel, now named “Man of Steel,” had been listed earlier this year for $160 million. Thom Conboy of Denison Yachting represented the buyer, who is reportedly a long-time repeat client.

This blockbuster yacht, custom-built by the esteemed shipyard Oceanco according to Spielberg’s precise requirements, set sail for the first time in 2010. With a net worth of $3.7 billion, the Academy Award winner spared no expense in designing his dream yacht, and this marked the first time it was available for sale.

The opulent interior, crafted by Nuvolari & Lenard and Molly Isaksen, spans four decks and provides ample space for hosting A-list gatherings. The yacht can comfortably accommodate 20 guests in nine lavish staterooms, along with a crew of 28. The standout feature is undoubtedly Spielberg’s owner’s suite, which includes a spacious stateroom with an ensuite bathroom and dressing room, an office, and a terrace with a private jacuzzi.

As expected, the “Seven Seas” yacht is brimming with amenities fit for Hollywood royalty, including oversized screens in every room and a fully-equipped movie theater. Other notable features include a sauna, steam room, gym, pool, extensive beach club, helipad, and numerous lounge areas and bars. Naturally, there’s a well-stocked garage housing a tender, speedboat, water toys, and diving gear.

Spielberg ensured that the “Seven Seas” lived up to its name over the past decade, taking the versatile superyacht to various corners of the globe’s seven seas. It has been seen sailing off the coast of France during the Cannes Film Festival and, more recently, cruising the waters near Antigua and Barbuda. The yacht’s transatlantic capabilities are courtesy of twin MTU engines, each delivering 4,680 horsepower. It can reach a top speed of 20 knots or cruise at a more leisurely 15 knots.

Now that Spielberg has concluded his time with the “Seven Seas,” enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting news of his next nautical masterpiece.

Rihanna’s mediterranean yacht escape aboard ‘Latitude’: sun, sea, and celeb-style revelry

Enjoying the warmth of July is undoubtedly a wonderful experience, and Rihanna seems to wholeheartedly agree. She’s been basking in the Mediterranean sun aboard a luxurious yacht for the past week, accompanied by her close friends: personal assistant Jen Rosales and childhood best friend Mel Forde.

If you’re inspired to plan a similar girls’ sun-soaked vacation, Rihanna’s choice for her holiday is the ‘Latitude,’ a 52-meter, five-star charter vessel. This splendid yacht offers everything you and up to 11 guests could desire, from swimming in the sparkling blue waters to visiting chic hotspots along the Sardinian, Amalfi, and Capri coasts.

This boutique hotel on the water provides a team of 13 dedicated crew members who are at your service around the clock. Rihanna and her friends have been making the most of their hospitality, indulging in lively parties from day to night, savoring gold Armand de Brignac champagne, Peroni, Corona beer, and tequila. Their escapades have been well-documented on Rihanna’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ Twitter feed, offering the world a glimpse into their celebrity lifestyle.

The ‘Latitude’ yacht features a luxurious Deco-themed interior with glass-walled and ceiling-mirrored dining rooms, a striking winding staircase, an elevator, and tasteful white furnishings. Throughout the yacht, you’ll find wood paneling, ’20s wall art, and accents of red leather and chrome.

You can soak up the sun and relax in the Jacuzzi on the uppermost deck, enjoy alfresco dining in the outdoor dining area, and unwind in the expansive lounge in the living space below. With a Michelin-grade chef on board, you’ll be tempted to savor every meal right there. However, like Rihanna and her friends, many guests often take the tender to explore the local cuisine on dry land, and perhaps the local clubs as well. Rihanna herself was spotted dancing solo aboard ‘Latitude’ after leaving the dance floor unimpressed during a night out in Positano.

Ken Freivokh Design Unveils an Exquisite New Superyacht Masterpiece

The smart people at Ken Freivokh Design have been working on this 140-meter idea for a new, amazing superyacht for the past few months. It’s meant to meet the needs and tastes of an experienced yacht owner. This vessel is nothing short of stunning. It has some unique features and creative outdoor areas, and it also uses a lot of glass.

As you might expect from a ship of this size, this project will also benefit from the presence of different tenders. A full beam garage is ready to hold up to six big limousine tenders and beach-landing crafts. Also, a 14-meter pool will happily turn into a floating dock for the main guest tender of the mothership when the need arises.

This superyacht might have not one, but two helicopters ready to take guests back to land whenever they want a break from this unique sailing experience. No one would ever want that, but it’s good to know that you could bring people in on two helicopters.

The superyacht has a luxurious sunken level with a wind-free area with great views and privacy. It also has a temperature-controlled pool with its own waterfall, and a special observation bubble will let guests see the sea in a way no one else has.

The interior of the ship shows a lot of attention to detail. The two different owner’s staterooms and a number of luxury VIP and guest suites are all beautiful and high-end. A full-sized IMAX theatre has been added to the long list of amazing features that will probably make the owner of this ship smile all the time.

Ardea Alba: A Contemporary Twist on Timeless Yachting

We’re certain that we’re not the only ones who think of the gorgeous ancient Greek vessels, their simplicity, and their iconic designs when we consider this magnificent concept. This magnificent yacht, named Ardea Alba, is the product of designer Timothy Baldacci’s vivid imagination. It resembles a futuristic vessel evocative of ancient times.

This concept for a superyacht is so attractive that it gained its designer a spot among the top six finalists in the Young Designer of the Year competition. The modern and exquisite 80-meter vessel has a low profile that is irresistible from any angle, but if you ask us, its limousine tender, which can accommodate up to eight passengers, is even more alluring.

Ardea Alba is the Latin name for the Great Egret, and as you might assume, Baldacci was inspired by this magnificent bird for his most recent project, incorporating the S-shaped neck of the bird into the exterior profile of the yacht. The magnificent vessel also features numerous glass surfaces that play with natural light and our perception of it, enhancing the overall awe-inspiringness.

The limousine tender has a similar design, allowing passengers to enjoy a safe and comfortable ride in a spectacular, minimalist environment. It began with a bird, but it also has Greek origins, so we’re calling it a success.

VanDutch Unveils Impressive 22m Flagship at the Cannes Yachting Festival

Cantiere del Pardo, an Italian shipyard, used the Cannes Yachting Festival to unveil designs for a new VanDutch flagship, the VanDutch 75.

The 22.3-metre model will make its global debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival in 2024. It is one of the first new additions to the fleet since the shipyard acquired the brand in 2020.

Burdisso & Capponi Yachts&Design was commissioned by Cantiere del Pardo to create a design concept that remained faithful to the existing VanDutch fleet – such as a high freeboard and sculptural tinted windscreen – but in “a more contemporary and Mediterranean key.” The new model is intended to be the first of a new line of open vessels.

Exterior amenities include a dinette, two sofas, and transformable tables that can accommodate up to 10 visitors under an optional soft-top. The ribbed cushions are inspired by sports vehicles and continue a stylistic motif throughout the interior.

The VanDutch 75 offers two layout alternatives to prospective owners. The standard configuration revolves around a large dinette and open-plan kitchen, with an owner’s cabin and twin cabin aft and a VIP cabin forward, whereas the alternative configuration eliminates the twin cabin to make space for a larger owner’s suite with a desk, sofa and walk-in closet.

A contemporary “cool” version with pearly briarwoods and a “smooth” version with burnished mahogany, Nero Ardesia wood, copper tones, and matte finishes have been designed to appeal to two distinct audiences. A “luminous porthole” was designed to lend character to windowless walls.

Three IPS engines provide propulsion for a maximum speed of 40 knots and a fuel capacity of 4,000 litres. A retractable swim platform provides convenient water access, while a tender garage with a launch and recovery system simplifies tender operations.

In one of its first presentations since the shipyard was acquired by Calzedonia Group last month, the shipyard also used the occasion to unveil a new version of its Pardo 75 T-Top model.

Get an exclusive first look at Heesen’s groundbreaking 187-foot expedition yacht design

How should the ideal explorer yacht appear? Helicopter landing pad and ice-rated hull? A submarine on board for deep-ocean exploration? Large volume in a relatively short hull and an interior with so much glass that you can see everything outside? The Xventure concept designed by Winch for Heesen may have it all.

Jim Dixon, director of yachts and aviation at Winch Design, notes that owners’ post-Covid desires include a desire for remote cruising. “Many owners are looking to get themselves and their families into a safe environment and enjoy their time to the fullest,” he told Robb Report, “and the 187-foot Xventure is packed with amenities to facilitate that.”

In November of last year, Heesen unveiled preliminary renderings of its first-ever explorer yacht. Now, Robb Report has exclusive first access to the spacious interior, and all eyes are on the sun deck’s glass-enclosed upper salon. Three of the five sides are made of floor-to-ceiling glass. Both the port and starboard doorways are the largest that can be configured to slide in that area. A vast skylight above creates the sensation that panoramic vistas are almost within reach. The forward bulkhead, which is also nearly entirely glazed, overlooks the sun deck pool.

“Connecting to the landscape is what it’s all about,” explains Dixon. “Providing proprietors with a cosy base from which to explore the wilderness. The interior design is based on this concept. The upper salon is as close to an outdoor space as it is possible to create indoors with the use of air conditioning and heating. Owners can enjoy a romantic supper by candlelight and then unwind while cruising through icebergs.”

Sketched without a specific proprietor in mind, all interior concepts are intended to convey what is possible. The bed in the master suite is positioned centrally to maximise the expansive views. A private terrace with direct access is suitable for morning coffee. Owners can also appreciate the view from the bathroom. The main saloon provides lounge accommodation and dining for 12 guests, but the backdrop once again takes centre stage.

For Dixon, a yacht qualifies as an expedition vessel if it has the most modern amenities and is pleasant in remote locations. The Xventure tender garage contains a sizable Intrepid sportfisherman, which is ideal for avid anglers and exploration away from the mothership. “Having one of these on any superyacht, let alone one of this size, is rare,” says Dixon. Additionally, the concept yacht contains a second beachlander tender for landing in challenging conditions. And room for a submarine if necessary. “All of these factors add up to something that can go virtually anywhere,” he says.

Xventure provides a fuel- and cost-efficient design, which is a priority for many proprietors, according to Dixon. The ice-class concept features hybrid propulsion and a Van Oossanen-designed Fast Displacement Hull Form, making it as efficient as a slippery fish. A range of 5,000 miles (with an optional longer range) allows owners to experience autonomous cruising for longer periods.

“We’re also working on a version with a shallower draught,” says Dixon, “because we believe that will be a major selling point for American clients interested in visiting the Bahamas or cruising down the East coast from New England to Miami.”

Feadship Unveils Eco-Friendly 83m Concept Yacht ‘Dunes’ at the Monaco Yacht Show

At the Monaco Yacht Show, Feadship revealed its 83-metre eco-concept Dunes, which has been regarded as a “big leap” towards the shipyard’s goal of “net zero superyachts.”

Dunes is predicted to “eliminate up to 95 percent of the potential negative environmental factors associated with operating a superyacht” as compared to a boat fulfilling today’s minimum environmental rules, according to YETI tooling. Dunes will be constructed of “low impact” and “high scrap content” steel and aluminium, with eco-friendly features such as a signature cooling mast design, extra-capacity storage batteries, a new form of fuel cell, and a radical propulsor.

Dunes’ unique style was created by Studio De Voogt to replicate “undulating waves, not of water, but of sand.” The asymmetric superstructure and lack of straight lines generate an organic appearance, resulting in an inconsistent body that appears to “shift with light and shadow.” The redesigned ventilation system and relocated bridge in the design represent an advancement from previous Feadship designs Breathe (2010) and Pure (2021).

The vast, shaded walk-around decks on the Dunes are an important feature, providing protection from the elements, various circulation paths, and plenty of outdoor sitting. Studio de Voogt imagined alfresco lounges that would seem “as islands on the decks,” therefore they were created in golden maple wood, an eco-friendly alternative to teak. All staircases are round or slightly curved, as are the full-height glass windows and doors, which reduce heat loads by “60%” thanks to curving overhangs supported by a maple-clad column. Teak has also been phased out of all decking, which is now made of millions of small glass and stone chips sealed in an aliphatic polyurethane resin.

Notably, the uppermost pavilion deck structure is made of “CO2-negative” treated wood, which has a high natural insulating capacity without adding superfluous weight. The upper deck, which is surrounded by glass, has a Jacuzzi and an informal eating area and can be outfitted for “any number of purposes, from night club to conference room.”

Circular stairs lead from this room to the yacht’s characteristic 10-metre mast, which is part of the “Cool Core Concept” of Studio de Voogt. The mast is shaped as a triangle of convex and concave foils, which draw air up the central staircase from other parts of the ship without the use of fans or ducts. According to Feadship, this “simple physics” reduces HVAC energy use by 35% on an annual basis. The mast has also been designed with a small, two-blade vane for solar and wind power, which can produce around 25 MWh per year when used just at anchor.

While no specifics have been released, Dunes will be propelled by ABB’s ABB Dynafin, a high-efficiency electric propulsion system.

The Dynafin, which has been in research and testing for ten years (and was debuted last May), uses revolving, vertical blades to simulate the propulsion of a whale’s tail – apparently “one of the most efficient forms of thrust ever seen.” Because of its high energy density and simplicity of storage, “green methanol” is used as a reaction agent in solid oxide fuel cells, which power the system. It is expected that the first Dynafin prototype would be available in 2025.

According to BOAT Pro, Feadship is currently building 15 yachts. The shipyard’s enigmatic Project 822 was recently launched at its Van Lent location on Kaag Island.

Kraken: A Supercar-Inspired Luxury Yacht by Gray Design

Designed by Gray Design, the Kraken draws its inspiration from the Vapor GT concept car, forging a remarkable pairing. Gray Design, a Swedish design studio, is the creative force behind this concept.

In tandem with the Vapor GT concept, Gray Design expressed their ambition to craft a set of extraordinary vehicles suited for both land and sea.

Impressively, the Kraken boasts a length of 75 meters (244 ft) with an 18-meter (60 ft) beam. The yacht features a beach club at the rear and a helipad at the front. Notably, the windshield serves as a skylight, illuminating the spacious lounge on the owner’s deck, while the raised pilothouse provides a panoramic view of the entire vessel.

The metallic paint is accentuated by vibrant red highlights, gleaming chrome plating, and rich teak flooring. Beyond its stunning aesthetics, this catamaran is built for speed, capable of reaching a top speed of 35 knots (40 mph).

The Kraken’s design, inspired by the Vapor GT, is a testament to Gray Design’s ingenuity.

The Vapor GT, another creation by Gray Design, takes the notion of a supercar to an even higher echelon. Its style is anything but understated, capturing attention with every surface and detail.

With aggressively sculpted edges that appear as though they were shaped by the wind, the Vapor GT’s open design includes glass spoilers at the front and rear, as well as on the side air intakes and within the cabin. Massive air intakes adorn the front of the car, completing its striking appearance.
