Russian Aerospace Forces Receive New Su-35S Fighters in Year’s Final Batch

Air Force of Russia Aviation Europe Fighter jet Procurement Russia

The Russian Aerospace Forces have received a new batch of Su-35S multi-role fighters.

The United Airlines Corporation reported about this on its Telegram account.

The new fighters were constructed at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant, which holds the primary manufacturing facilities for modern fighters.

According to the manufacturer, this batch of Su-35S fighters will be the last one this year. In December, the company is to deliver another batch of Su-57 fighters to the Russian Aerospace Forces.

The manufacturer does not disclose the exact number of aircraft, but judging by the photo, the Russian Aerospace Forces received two aircraft.

Prior to the handover, the fighters underwent a full cycle of tests and test flights to confirm the declared characteristics and proper operation of the aircraft systems.

This year, the UAC handed over about 12 Su-35S fighters to the customer in five batches, which are currently serving in the aggressor’s air force.

In addition to the Russian Federation, the fighter is also offered to the export market. For example, in 2015, the Chinese Ministry of Defense signed a contract to purchase 24 Su-35S fighters worth $2.5 billion.

China received the first batch of four fighters in December 2016. The fighters landed at the Chinese Air Force training base in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, in northern China. China received the second batch of 10 units in 2017, and in 2018, the aircraft formed the first unit.

Currently, the 6th Aviation Brigade of the Chinese Air Force uses this type of aircraft, where they replaced J-11 jet fighters (a licensed copy of the Soviet-era Su-27SK). Along with the Su-35, the brigade is also equipped with J-16 fighters and Su-30MKK multirole fighters.

As Militarnyi previously reported, the Russian Aerospace Forces received a batch of new Su-34 fighter-bombers. The exact number of transferred aircraft has not been disclosed, but the amount is expected to be two fighter-bombers.

These aircraft are the third batch of modernized Su-34Ms delivered to the military of the aggressor country in 2023 and the sixth batch of modernized Su-34Ms ordered by the Russian Ministry of Defense in 2020.

Modernized Russian BMP-1AM Falls into Hands of Ukrainian 58th Brigade

Armored vehicles IFV Occupants elimination Ukraine War with Russia

Ukrainian troops seize a modernized Russian BMP-1AM Basurmanin in the Donetsk region.

The press service of the 58th Motorized Brigade reported on this.

Soldiers of the 58th Mechanized Brigade repelled the invaders’ assault and captured an undamaged Russian modernized BMP-1AM.

“The invaders tried to attack, but our [soldiers] fought back well. The mechanic jumped out of the [Russian] BMP, the vehicle made it to the spot, hit a tree, and remained undamaged,” the soldier said.

Photos of the same infantry fighting vehicle, dated early October 2023, were found online on the webpage of one of the invaders.

The seized BMP belonged to the 37th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation. At the time of the filming, it was located in the area of Volnovakha, Donetsk region.

In addition to the factory-installed on-board slat armor, the vehicle also had a superstructure welded onto the turret to protect the BMP from drone attacks. The military footage shows the “superstructure” on the vehicle was damaged, presumably as a result of such a hit.

According to a soldier of the 58th Motorized Brigade, the captured vehicle will undergo a technical inspection in a few days, after which it will reinforce one of the Brigade’s units.

BMP-1AM Basurmanin

The BMP-1АМ Basurmanin was upgraded by the Uralvagonzavod to improve its firepower. In particular, the Basurmanin was equipped with a remote weapon station from BTR-82А.

The infantry fighting vehicle was also equipped with a 30mm autocannon and a PKTM 7.62mm machine gun. The combat vehicle module was equipped with a modern guidance system and thermal imager.

Despite the upgrade, the ballistic and mine protection of the Basurmanin hull remained at the level of the basic Soviet BMP-1 and could only withstand fire from a 12.7mm machine gun in the front projection and small arms in a circular pattern.

Important disadvantages of the modernized BMP include the low level of comfort and convenience of infantry landing, which is almost classic for Soviet-era armored vehicles. In addition, the mine protection is not able to withstand hitting anti-tank mines common on the battlefield.

Rostec Dubious Claim: Chinese-Made UAV Counter System Paraded as Russian Innovation

China EW Russia UAV

The Russian state-owned defense conglomerate Rostec passes off a Chinese-made product as its own development.

The Moscow Times reported on this.

The Russian state-owned defense conglomerate has recently announced the completion of the development of a “Russian-made” Chistyulya Counter UAV System.

“Amid growing demand for counter UAV systems, the holding’s companies are actually working from the ground up, developing new modifications of such equipment,” said Alexey Kravchenko, the system’s “developer,” CEO of TsNII Cyclone.

One of Rostec’s structural units, Roselektronika, demonstrated the product in Moscow, claiming that it is capable of jamming control and navigation channels of drones within a radius of one kilometer, as well as blocking the transmission of photos and videos from UAVs.

In the Chinese online store Aliexpress, it was possible to find an identical product that can be purchased at a price of $700 to $2,000.

It can be assumed that the Russians have localized the production of this device in their country or organized its assembly from Chinese parts.

It is not known what the purchase price is for the Russian Ministry of Defense, but according to Russian tradition, it is most likely higher than the price on marketplaces.

As an example, TMT journalists cited the Sibiryachok-1 drone, whose cost does not exceed RUB 200,000, and the Ministry of Defense bought it for RUB 2 million.

It is also not known what scheme the procurement of the system or individual components is organized under.

Militarnyi reported in September 2023 that restrictions imposed by China led to disruptions in the supply of drones and their parts to Russia.

The restrictions have led to a shortage of a number of parts, including thermal imagers and laser rangefinders. There is already a shortage of certain types of drones weighing more than 4 kilograms.

Ukraine’s New Medical Evacuation Vehicle Nears Deployment

Armored vehicles Europe Ukraine World

The Ukrainian Research and Production Association «PRACTIKA» is developing a medical evacuation vehicle for the Ukrainian military.

Deputy Minister of Strategic Industry of Ukraine Hanna Hvozdiar informed about this in her interview with Radio Svoboda.

A private company is developing a new medical vehicle for transporting the wounded from the frontlines based on the existing Kozak-7 armored vehicle.

The original armored vehicle and its medical version are built on a modified chassis of the American Ford F550 4×4 truck.

Медична евакуаційна машина  на базі бронеавтомобіля "Козак-7". Фото: Радіо Свобода /Мінстратегпром.

The ballistic protection of the Kozak vehicle complies with the PZSA-5 standard (similar to NATO STANAG 4569 lvl 2), which provides protection against 7.62x51mm bullets in all projections. Mine protection withstands mines with a capacity of up to 6 kg of TNT.

The medical compartment, located in the aft part of the vehicle, is designed to carry four lying wounded and a medic. It has two escape doors and is designed to accommodate the injured.

The minister deputy said that the new vehicle is currently being tested to eliminate shortcomings and adapt it to the real needs of the military.

It is noted that the prototype is being tested and finalized under the supervision of medics involved in the evacuation of the wounded from the battlefield.

It is worth noting that at the time of the presentation of the Kozak-7 vehicle, the developers also presented a medical evacuation version of the vehicle for order.

The present prototype, on the other hand, stands out for the larger size of the medical area and the lack of a second pair of doors.

The Kozak-7 vehicle is a relatively new piece of equipment that was first shown to representatives of the Ministry of Defense in late January 2022, a month before the Russian invasion.

To date, it is known that a certain number of Ukrainian-made armored vehicles have entered service with the Defense Forces of Ukraine and are being actively used by Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

Canada Infantry armament Military assistance Ukraine War with Russia

Canada will provide Ukraine with over 11,000 assault rifles and over 9 million rounds of ammunition for small arms.

European Pravda reported on this.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced this at a joint briefing with senior EU officials.

Trudeau emphasized that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine continues and that Ukraine needs support to defend itself.

“Today I am announcing that Canada is transferring more than 11,000 assault rifles and more than 9 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine,” Trudeau said.

It is unclear what kind of rifles the Canadian government decided to transfer to Ukraine, but it can be assumed that it is a local version of the Colt M16 or Colt M16 under the names Diemaco C7 and Diemaco C8, respectively.

These rifles have been in use by the Defense Forces of Ukraine since about mid-spring 2022, but they have been in widespread use since summer and fall.

The C7 assault rifle is a modified version of the American Colt M16A1E1 rifle, which is manufactured under license by the Canadian company DIEMACO, now called Colt Canada.

Militarnyi reported in April that Canada would send 21,000 assault rifles, 38 machine guns, and more than 2.4 million rounds of cartridges to Ukraine.

Recently, Canada stated plans to provide over CAD 1 billion in military aid to Ukraine by 2026.

Of this amount, CAD 816 million is allocated for 2023-2024, and CAD 515 million until 2026.

The Canadian government does not disclose the details of the aid, but it can be assumed that it is direct financial assistance for security and defense.

40% of Shahed Drones Destroyed by Mobile Air Defense Teams in Nighttime Attack

Air Defense Air Force of Ukraine Armed Forces of Ukraine UAV Ukraine War with Russia

Almost 40% of Russian Shahed-type drones launched in Ukraine on the night of November 25 were destroyed by mobile air defense teams. The rest were shot down by other units.

This was announced by Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Air Force.

The last Russian attack was the most massive use of loitering munition by the invaders of all time in a full-scale war.

A total of 75 Shahed drones were launched against Ukraine. The main direction of the Russian strike was Kyiv. According to updated data, air defense destroyed 74 enemy drones.

Ukrainian air defense operated in at least six regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Sumy, Dnepropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, and Kirovohrad.

The Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhii Naiev, said that during the invaders’ air attack in the Northern Operating Zone, the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed 55 enemy Shahed drones. Of those, 28 enemy UAVs were destroyed by mobile air defense teams equipped with heavy machine guns, MANPADS and anti-aircraft guns.

“In particular, 7 drones were destroyed in the Sumy direction, 4 kamikaze drones were destroyed in Chernihiv, and 17 enemy UAVs were destroyed in Kyiv,” Naiev said.

Mobile air defense teams

As a large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began, mobile fire groups were formed to immediately strengthen air defense. SUVs on which heavy machine guns and small-caliber anti-aircraft guns are mounted are used for the most part for such groups’ mobility. They are also reinforced by operators of portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS).

Capacity building of mobile air defense teams

In early November, Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Air Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that the number of air defense mobile fire teams in Ukraine would continue to increase. They are needed to strengthen the protection of strategic facilities and critical infrastructure from Russian strike drones.

Last month, the Command of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in the north of Ukraine, the preparation and formation of new air defense teams continued.

In October, the Come Back Alive Foundation handed over the first specially designed telecommunications kits to mobile air defense fire teams.

Last month, the Kyiv region authorities handed over 45 SUVs equipped with turrets with special equipment for Mobile AA Teams. In the Mykolaiv region, 39 Mitsubishi L200 cars were purchased for mobile air defense teams.

Security Service of Ukraine Unveils Footage of Crimean Bridge Attack by SeaBaby Drone

Black Sea Crimea Fleet Occupants elimination Russia Security Service of Ukraine Ukraine Ukrainian Navy USV War with Russia

The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) showed how SeaBaby drones damaged the Russian bridge across the Kerch Strait in July 2023.

Footage of operational use was shown in the documentary “SSU. Special Operation of Victory. Crimean Bridge to Hell.”

That time, the Ukrainian drones also tried to attack the Russian Admiral Essen frigate.

During the July 17 attack, the Security Service launched five SeaBaby naval drones, which traveled in two groups to Russia’s illegally constructed Kerch Bridge. The operation was carried out in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy.

The first group of two SeaBaby surface drones was moving in the lead, while the second group of three drones was following the two first drones.

The SSU said that at some point the Russians raised to the skies their fighter jets, and then the Ukrainian headquarters decided that the SeaBaby unmanned surface vessels should change their course. Then there came information that the Russian frigate Admiral Essen was on its way. The SSU’s Head, Vasyl Maliuk, noted that the frigate was a high-priority target, and at some time, the team began to hesitate and consider assaulting the Essen.

An attempt to attack a Russian ship

The film says that the drones that went behind no longer had enough fuel to reach the Crimean Bridge. Therefore, it was decided to send them to attack the Russian frigate. The remaining two drones from the first group continued to move in the direction of the bridge.

“Yes, we licked in anticipation of Essen. But they bypassed him at a distance of 1.5 km. Because we had a clear task from the supreme commander. In addition, on the ship itself, even then, they knew about the existence of naval drones and watched,” added Malyuk.

However, it was not possible to catch up with the invaders’ ship, since it went in the direction of Novorossiysk. Therefore, the SSU decided to “self-isolate” all three drones in the sea near Yalta, so that they did not fall into the hands of the enemy.

Hit of the Crimean bridge

Having reached the Kerch bridge, the first SeaBaby USV was supposed to attack the pillar of the railway part of the bridge, because it was a priority to hit. However, the unmanned vessel initially passed the pillar without hitting it. Therefore, it was decided to turn around and attack the pillar of the road part of the illegally built bridge by the Russians. A powerful explosion led to significant damage to the site of the structure.

Subsequently, the second Ukrainian SeaBaby surface drone approached the bridge across the Kerch Strait, which had already hit the pillar of the railway part of the bridge along which the Russian train was moving.

The sea drones that damaged the Crimean bridge in July 2023 were named SeaBaby at the initiative of SSU officers. Those drones were equipped with a 850 kg warhead. The SSU team is working on the further development and production of such drones, with assistance from civil engineers and programmers.
