FOR three days in a row the doors flung open for no reason. CCTV shocked staff and now, strange things are happening again.
IT WAS the middle of winter when the modern fire doors at Hampton Court Palace flung open and were left flapping in the breeze. And it wasn’t the first time it happened.
State Apartment Warder Christian Lax — who has worked at the 500-year-old palace for five years — said the 2003 incident that later became famous on YouTube is just a small part of the story that still mystifies staff to this day.
“On the first and third day they found the doors wide open and on the second day the doors were closed and of course they were intrigued by this so they played back the footage on the CCTV,” he said.
“That’s when they saw this figure peering out of the room … dressed in historical costume and closing the fire doors.”
