The Italian shipyard Rossinavi has announced that its Sea Cat concept, which was unveiled during Miami Design Week in 2021, is currently being constructed.

The 42.75-metre Sea Cat, which was announced on the eve of the Monaco Yacht Show, is the first project presented by Fulvio de Simoni Yacht Design and Catana Yachts since Aurora in 2017. This is also the shipyard’s first multihull undertaking.

Federico Rossi, chief operating officer of Rossinavi, stated, “The intention was to create a connection between nature, electricity, and futurisim.”

Solar energy is integral to the design of the Sea Cat, which will feature four modes of operation. The first is for day trips, where the catamaran can operate in full-electric mode for the duration of the voyage. The second is optimised for multi-day cruises with evenings spent at anchor, where the Sea Cat can operate in full-electric mode for 90 percent of the time.

For transatlantic crossings, the yacht can spend 80 per cent of its time in full-electric mode, where CO2 emissions are reduced by approximately 40 tonnes compared to a traditional yacht of the same size, according to the yard.

The fourth and final mode of operation, dubbed hibernation, enables the catamaran to be self-sufficient in port due to solar panels and even donate excess energy to a marina or private property.

Meyer Davis, a New York-based design firm, will construct an interior that “complements the cutting-edge yacht by bringing relaxed luxury and eco-friendly design to the forefront,” according to the shipyard. The interior design will be inspired by nature, specifically the sun, the sea, and the dunes.

Notable features include a swimming pool in the cockpit of the main deck and a large forward saloon with a Jacuzzi, fire pits, and a theatre. There are four cabins in the hulls that can accommodate a maximum of 10 passengers.

With a beam of 13.75 metres and a maximum draught of two metres, the Sea Cat will fall under the 500GT limit.

Rossi added, “The new generation of yachts is motivated by a sense of duty.” I wanted to set an objective beyond the obstacle of creating avant-garde products that better express our conception of the cruising experience, while moving in an increasingly sustainable direction.

Heesen Yachts has released the first interior renderings for its new 49.8-meter superyacht Project Orion. The Dutch shipyard has collaborated with Cristiano Gatto to design an interior that is not only exclusive to Project Orion, but also reflects and complements the vessel’s avant-garde exterior lines.

The interior design of Project Orion, also known as Project YN 20750, was inspired by NASA’s Orion spacecraft. Cristiano Gatto remarked, “The interior design of Project Orion is the result of research motivated by complementary and partially contrasting needs: comfort and luxury.”

Her interior has been designed to take advantage of her 499 GT of internal volume, with materials and furnishings engineered to reduce weight, expedite the maintenance of concealed equipment, and facilitate installation. Gatto added, “We have used construction details and opulent materials as crown jewels to refine the space while ensuring its cosiness and comfort.”

Heesen Yachts Interiors artisans and craftspeople are responsible for all aspects of Project Orion’s interior construction and completion. She utilises over 37 distinct materials, such as high-gloss timbers, woven leather, marbles, and custom carpets.

“We used shapes and materials that exude comfort and serenity while displaying a refined atmosphere where materials, their combination, details, and shapes highlight the uniqueness and exclusivity of this custom yacht interior,” said Cristiano.

Six opulent accommodations onboard Project Orion can accommodate up to twelve passengers. Her master suite will be located forward on the main deck, while her VIP suite, two double suites, and two twin suites will be located on the lower deck. Floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed bulwarks provide her with an abundance of natural light.

Omega Architects designed the exterior of Project Orion, while Heesen and Van Oossanen designed the ship’s hull. She is made of lightweight aluminium and is part of Heesen’s 50-meter Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) aluminium series. Additionally, Project Orion has a modest draught of 2.15 metres, making her Bahamas-friendly.

With a hybrid power system, Project Orion will provide both silent propulsion and power management flexibility for maximum energy efficiency. Her twin 600 kW MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines will propel her to a maximum speed of 16.3 knots. At 12 knots, excluding hotel cargo, Orion’s fuel consumption is just 98 litres per hour, and at 10 knots in hybrid mode, it drops to 45 litres per hour.
