Project Orion: A Spectacular Glimpse into the Interior Design of the 50m Heesen Superyacht

Heesen Yachts has released the first interior renderings for its new 49.8-meter superyacht Project Orion. The Dutch shipyard has collaborated with Cristiano Gatto to design an interior that is not only exclusive to Project Orion, but also reflects and complements the vessel’s avant-garde exterior lines.

The interior design of Project Orion, also known as Project YN 20750, was inspired by NASA’s Orion spacecraft. Cristiano Gatto remarked, “The interior design of Project Orion is the result of research motivated by complementary and partially contrasting needs: comfort and luxury.”

Her interior has been designed to take advantage of her 499 GT of internal volume, with materials and furnishings engineered to reduce weight, expedite the maintenance of concealed equipment, and facilitate installation. Gatto added, “We have used construction details and opulent materials as crown jewels to refine the space while ensuring its cosiness and comfort.”

Heesen Yachts Interiors artisans and craftspeople are responsible for all aspects of Project Orion’s interior construction and completion. She utilises over 37 distinct materials, such as high-gloss timbers, woven leather, marbles, and custom carpets.

“We used shapes and materials that exude comfort and serenity while displaying a refined atmosphere where materials, their combination, details, and shapes highlight the uniqueness and exclusivity of this custom yacht interior,” said Cristiano.

Six opulent accommodations onboard Project Orion can accommodate up to twelve passengers. Her master suite will be located forward on the main deck, while her VIP suite, two double suites, and two twin suites will be located on the lower deck. Floor-to-ceiling windows and exposed bulwarks provide her with an abundance of natural light.

Omega Architects designed the exterior of Project Orion, while Heesen and Van Oossanen designed the ship’s hull. She is made of lightweight aluminium and is part of Heesen’s 50-meter Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) aluminium series. Additionally, Project Orion has a modest draught of 2.15 metres, making her Bahamas-friendly.

With a hybrid power system, Project Orion will provide both silent propulsion and power management flexibility for maximum energy efficiency. Her twin 600 kW MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines will propel her to a maximum speed of 16.3 knots. At 12 knots, excluding hotel cargo, Orion’s fuel consumption is just 98 litres per hour, and at 10 knots in hybrid mode, it drops to 45 litres per hour.

Explore the Epic 948-Foot Superyacht with Exquisite Duplexes and Triplexes, Complete with Private Elevators

Too frequently, the most innovative superyacht designs never make it to the water. However, this is not the case with Njord. The 948-foot megayacht, which Ocean Residences Development (ORD) unveiled last year, could strike the water within four years.

According to a recent proclamation, the “world’s largest private residence yacht,” Njord, will be built at Meyer Werft and delivered in 2025. During its two-hundred-year history, the German shipyard has delivered approximately fifty luxury liners and is adept at building vessels of this size.

ORD’s chief executive Kristian Stensby said in a statement, “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with Meyer Werft, a company that has been shipbuilding for 226 years, or seven generations, and is the world leader in building innovative and complex passenger vessels with a stellar reputation for exceptional quality, precision, and on-time deliveries.”

Njord, named after the Norse deity of the seas and winds, is a luxurious high-rise ideally suited for ocean adventures. The ship will be outfitted with 117 luxury residences, each with two to six apartments. The most desirable units, however, are the 16 duplexes and triplexes with their own private elevators. Depending on size, each residence begins at $8 million, and the cost of ownership maintenance is 5% of the purchase price.

Seafarers will also have access to numerous outdoor terraces, a sundeck, beach club, two outdoor pools, an indoor hydro pool, wellness facilities, a nightclub, jazz lounge, and an observatory. In addition, there are RIBs, toys, and tenders for additional enjoyment and exploration.

From Antarctica to the Mediterranean, Njord will embark on excursions across the globe. Moreover, it will do so in a sustainable manner. The vessel will be constructed in accordance with the “strictest” environmental regulations to reduce its carbon imprint. It will feature state-of-the-art dual-fuel engines, hybrid operation batteries, thermal recovery systems, and advanced power management systems.

In addition, Njord will feature a professional oceanographic laboratory that will aid scientists and researchers in addressing climate change and other urgent issues.

Bernard Meyer, proprietor of the shipyard, added, “Our company is proud to begin construction on the world’s most eco-friendly ship.” “Meyer Werft’s dedication to ocean conservation is a top priority, and the vision of M/Y Njord as a Ship With A Purpose is directly aligned with our company’s values and commitment to the environment.”

Discover Odisye: The Mesmerizing 50-Meter Superyacht Masterpiece Uniting Sporty Elegance with Tranquil Luxury

SP.9, a London-based design firm, collaborated with Daroca Design, a Spanish studio, on a 50-meter superyacht concept named Odisye. The design of the project is characterised by a “Yin/Yang approach” that combines sporty exteriors with gentle and sophisticated interiors.

Alejandro Crespo, founder and CEO of Daroca, stated regarding the design specification, “Odisye was created with the modern yacht owner in mind. Elegant and vivacious, the exterior design of the concept reflects the mindset of this new generation.

Four distinct decks cascade down the concept’s rear side. The sundeck features a Jacuzzi and bar, while the bridge deck aft has a large al fresco table that accommodates 16 guests for formal lunches and dinners or meetings.

The main deck has soft seating for socialising in a more leisurely setting, whereas the beach club has a TV lounge at sea level with a 360-degree view of the ocean. Odiseye’s bow is steeply angled, and its dark blue and anthracite metallic coloured hull creates a distinctive exterior profile.

The interiors of SP.9 evoke a sense of tranquilly with their muted, inviting colour scheme.

“I was inspired by the strong personalities of the new owners, who love the antithesis of sporty chic and curvilinear elegance with a touch of ancestral artistry,” said Pei Li, the creative director of SP.9.

The main saloon has a marble floor that reflects light along the ceiling and a spacious sofa and dining table in the rear. Separated by a translucent glass wall, the adjacent wine sampling room is a private sanctuary that complements the airy atmosphere of the interiors.

Ten visitors are accommodated in five cabins, including a master cabin, three VIP guest cabins, and a twin cabin. All exhibit a meticulous selection of textures and materials, such as green obsidian, leather panels, and embroidered silk.
