Pebble is one of several boundary-pushing ideas introduced by Van Geest in recent years. Mirage, a 348-foot motor yacht concept clad in reflective glass, and Moonstone, a 295-foot superyacht concept with a faceted steel superstructure that reflects light and sparkles day and night, were previously designed by the studio.

Luiz de Basto, a designer based in Miami, has revealed additional information about his new superyacht project, the Amer 41 Steel. The new yacht, which was unveiled for the first time at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2022, is currently under construction at the Permare Shipyard, with delivery scheduled for 2025.

Beginning in 2022, the yacht was commissioned for a patron of Luiz de Basto who previously owned the 47-meter Inace yacht Far Far Away.

“The owner and his family traveled extensively with Far Far Away, and in 2018, after selling the boat, we began sketching ideas for the new, larger and improved version,” de Basto explained.

The new project was not approved until 2022, at which point the proprietor determined that 50 metres was too large. “We began this new phase by examining Far Far Away and determining where and what enhancements were necessary. We moved carefully from 38 to 41 meters, ensuring that the layout and profile were precisely rounded,” de Basto explained.

Important to the client’s request was tender stowage space for two eight-metre models and Waverunners. These are stored in a foredeck well, which features integrated cranes for launching and retrieving tenders swiftly and securely. Additionally, a helipad was required to facilitate excursions in remote locations.

The client decided against the traditional beach club on the lower deck because the family “never used” it. Instead, the flybridge area was expanded as much as feasible to provide the client with a spacious outdoor setting. The 17-meter-long area is “not so noticeable from the exterior,” according to de Basto, but it comprises more than 40 percent of the LOA.

The yacht has a distinct explorer-style exterior, but de Basto was cautious to preserve its superyacht allure. “By merely glancing at her profile, no one would realize that she is a fully capable explorer,” de Basto added.

“My understanding of yacht design aims to incorporate the demands of experienced owners with their lifestyle,” stated de Basto. “In the Amer 41 Explorer, the pleasure of superior aesthetics and experiences is an integral part of yacht ownership.”

“My design process involves cycling between form, function, and experience until they become one,” he continued.

Italian firm Optima Design is in charge of naval architecture and engineering, and the shipyard has stated that the model will have a “innovative” hull shape and “advanced new propulsion systems” that will “significantly reduce consumption and emissions while ensuring silence and comfort on board.”

Ten guests are accommodated in five cabins, with additional accommodations for eight crew members. According to de Basto, the interior will feature a “clean and elegant” design characterized by light colors and contrasting textures.

Octuri, an aircraft designer by trade, conceived of the Flying Yacht after researching enormous 1940s aircraft such as Howard Hughes’ H-4 Hercules, also known as the Spruce Goose, the largest flying boat ever constructed, and later flying boats such as the Soviet Union’s Ekranoplan, which resembled a monster jet stranded on the water rather than a boat. As the military vessel accelerated, ground effect — a cushion of air confined beneath the hull — lifted it approximately 10 feet, allowing it to travel at incredible speeds over the water.

The Flying Yacht’s additional component—14,000 square feet of sail on four 133-foot-tall masts—makes its design considerably more complicated, if it is to function in the actual world. The sails propel the multipurpose vessel, and when they are retracted, the masts transform into wings.

The young Dutch design firm, recently founded by marine-world stalwarts Jacob van de Haar, Fabian Henke, Raquel H. Grijota, and Sean Bekeschus, has just unveiled a new 197-footer with a glass-clad interior reminiscent of a New York penthouse.

The vessel follows in the footsteps of the studio’s first concept ship, Phathom-1, which was unveiled by the company in 2019. The new superyacht, like its 262-foot predecessor, eschews the traditional superyacht configuration in favor of elegant open-plan spaces and loft-like proportions. It was designed for a patron who wanted to fit all the luxurious features of the Phathom-1 yacht into a smaller, more maneuverable vessel.

The new megayacht features a three-level indoor-outdoor atrium that extends from the main deck aft to the sundeck. Its exterior of structural glass, which is replete with geometric shapes and lines, not only makes a striking visual statement, but also permits an abundance of natural light to enter.

Similarly, the split-level owner’s suite features large glass windows and a glass balcony that separate the bedroom from the living and study below.

Another highlight is the sundeck conservatory. Again encased in glass, it features an outdoor dining area, fitness center, and spa, all with panoramic views. Meanwhile, the glass floor serves as a skylight for the central atrium below.

The bow salon, which is protected by glass panels against the elements, features curved sofas ideal for watching the sunset and a waterfall feature for added flair. At the opposite end, the aft veranda features a massive infinity pool with sun loungers. Additionally, it has foldable bulwarks for added capacity.

The ship has space for two tenders and a large gantry under the starboard deck to assist with launching.

Phathom did not reveal any information about propulsion, but who needs pace when you have style?

Latin students are aware that “Crescere” signifies “to grow.” This is precisely what the spectacular concept megayacht Crescere is designed to do. US designer J. David Weiss envisaged plant-filled, greenhouse-like glass walls spanning multiple decks after being inspired by the vision of a greenery-loving American buyer who desired cocoon-like spaces.

Robb Report quoted Weiss, founder of the disruptive design firm Designova Creative, as saying, “The idea is to create spaces that are quieter and more serene, where guests can relax and recharge.”

According to him, the hull’s expansive glass surfaces, which saturate the interior with diffused natural light, are crucial to the design. These combine with the yacht’s large sliding glass panels to allow cooling gusts to enter. Weiss, who contributed to the design of such iconic superyachts as Galactica Star, the 213-foot all-aluminum Heesen, and the 239-foot CRN-built Yalla, swiftly adds that the yacht isn’t just for rest and relaxation. The expansive terrace areas should also be conducive to enjoyment.

A particularly interesting feature of Crescere is its 52-foot-by-10-foot lap pool. Instead of being submerged into the foredeck, glass side panels rise up from the deck to form the pool, which is flooded with salt water by high-speed pumps. When not in use or when the foredeck must be cleared for the helipad, the pool can be emptied in a matter of seconds and its sides can vanish.

“Not only is it a great way to reduce weight on the bow while underway, but it’s also fun to watch guests splashing around through the glass sides,” says Weiss.

For the hull and superstructure of Crescere, the designer went against current trends for wider, taller, and more vertical yachts, or for axe-bowed yachts with longer, slimmer profiles. His bow was modeled after traditional J-class vessels. “We desired for the yacht to appear elegant and swift, with clean lines. “Although the design is for a yacht longer than 400 feet, we wanted her to have the personality of a much smaller vessel,” says Weiss.

At the stern, there are arched elements that attract attention. They are intended to resemble the yacht’s physical backbone, cascading down from the superstructure to the water. They could also serve as excellent water attractions for children.

In keeping with the yacht’s eco-friendly concept, Weiss envisions a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion system with biofuel generators and solar panels charging large battery banks. And Crescere would be swift, traveling at 40 mph from one tropical island to the next.

Weiss states that the most enjoyable aspect of working on the concept has been speaking with companies that can develop these complex new technologies. “Such as the creation of glass pool sides, glass living walls, and propulsion systems.”

Weiss even contacted a company that could create intelligent watering systems for managing the health of the vegetation on board. “That’s not something you do every day as a designer,” he explains.

The designer faces an additional obstacle in the form of a car-carrying tender. Six or seven of the prospective purchaser’s cherished collection of classic automobiles would accompany him on the yacht, if he were to purchase the yacht. Weiss states, “We are developing a military-style landing craft that can be deployed from the side of the hull and can run up onto a beach or boat ramp.” When you have a 433-foot-long object, you can do a variety of enjoyable activities.

The A Group has assembled an A-Team for its most recent concept superyacht. The Monaco-based studio, founded in 1985 by Oceanco co-founder Richard Hein, has teamed up with up-and-coming yacht designer Thibaud Le Merdy to create a 272-foot yacht dubbed Project Comète.

Thibaud created Comète in 2017, the same year he was designated Young Designer of the Year by BOAT International. Now, with the assistance of yachting director Matt Pegrum, Thibaud has been able to refine his vision and realize his ideal vessel.

Comète combines Thibaud’s innovative spirit and new concepts with The A Group’s extensive construction expertise. The vessel has exquisite and dynamic lines, as well as a superstructure that seamlessly integrates with the hull. Its ample dimensions yield a spacious 1,800GT interior with living accommodations that flow seamlessly into the exterior.

“Comète could be described as the first project that brings the outside in and the inside out due to her revolutionary arrangement,” a representative for The A Group told Robb Report in an email.

The layout provides accommodations for 12 visitors and 22 crew members. The owner’s suite features a private terrace measuring just under 1,300 square feet and offering expansive views of the ocean. Obviously, Project Comète carries an abundance of tools. The spacious garage can accommodate two 33-foot tenders, one 23-foot crew tender, and a minimum of eight Jet Skis. Regarding propulsion, the vessel’s maximum speed will be 16 knots and its cruising speed will be 12 knots.

The 360-foot yacht seeks to contribute to the next generation of marine design. It has an exterior that is futuristic and sporty, and an interior that resembles a mansion in terms of opulent space.

Nicol Piredda, director of Piredda & Partners, told Robb Report via email, “The concept was inspired by the industry’s need for innovation, new ideas, and new forms.”

The superstructure that connects all three platforms and is encased in glass is an example of one of these innovative features. This provides a tremendous amount of interior space — 4,135 gross tonnes, to be precise — as well as vast amounts of natural light.

A double-height grand saloon with expansive floor-to-ceiling windows is located at the centre of the ship. This area, as well as the rest of the interior, is furnished with furnishings and materials from around the world that pay homage to nature and diverse cultures.

As for lodgings, Now features four VIP suites on the main deck, four guest cabins on the lower deck and personnel quarters on the bridge deck. The owner’s stateroom, meanwhile, comprises a whole private deck. The vessel can accommodate a total of 18 guests and 41 crew.

Federico Lo Giudice, the director of interior design at Piredda & Partners, said in a statement, “The feeling when walking through these spaces is elegant but casual, with a variety of open spaces, intimate corners, and private, exclusive areas.”

In addition, there is an 800-square-foot cinema theatre amidship and a full-beam “arcade” with terraces. Outside, the ship features a large basketball court that functions as a helipad on the forward deck, an infinity pool that cascades to the swim platform, a jacuzzi, and a rooftop party area for late-night shenanigans.

As for propulsion, Now has been designed with a hybrid diesel-electric system, though the proprietor may request modifications.

Piredda told Robb Report, “in collaboration with the right shipyard, it could be easily adapted and constructed with full-electric propulsion.”
