D-iD Design Studio Unveils Stunning 45m Explorer Yacht Concept: Kumu

D-iD, a design company located in the United Kingdom, has shown its 45-metre explorer boat idea Kumu.

Kumu, with its sleek lines and powerful appearance, will combine an explorer’s aptitude and equipment with the conveniences of a motor yacht. Dimitris and Kate Hadjidimos, the studio’s owners, were inspired to create Kumu after a post-pandemic sailing vacation in Greece.

“We were discussing recent conversations with clients on how the days of Covid had altered their perceptions of what truly matters in life,” Dimitris relates. “They, like many of us, had a renewed emphasis on spending time with purpose and enjoying the finer things in life.” Kate and I wanted to create a yacht that would genuinely distil the spirit of time spent on the ocean when relaxing on a tiny boat off the Greek coast, with clear sky allowing the light to dance on the waves.”

To that purpose, lengthy, unimpeded on-deck sightlines eliminate all visual and physical obstacles to the surroundings, and skylights in the master stateroom and main deck guest cabins are liberally used.

Owners can select from a variety of configurations over the two-and-a-half deck layout. The yacht can be designed with five guest cabins, three crew, and a permanent spa treatment room, or additional guest quarters, crew cabins, a gym, or a family room can be added. A large stew pantry is designed for convenience of servicing while also allowing for a family-style galley.

The yacht’s design attempts to foster a sense of community, whether visitors are on deck or in the water. This incorporates an interior and outdoor bar that will run from the main deck saloon to the aft deck without interruption. The interior of the sweeping main deck is another social place, with dining for up to 12 people and a “clever use of lighting, defining spaces for intimacy without blocking the overall flow.” The sun deck will be 225 square metres in size, and the beach club will be 65 square metres in size thanks to two fold-down balconies.

Kumu will also have room for two tenders: a 7.5-metre tender on the aft deck and a 5.5-metre tender in the toy garage, which will also have room for diving equipment, sailing dinghies, Jet Skis, and bikes.

The boat has been designed with sustainability in mind, with teak deck choices and furniture made from natural resources. The engine compartment has also been built to allow for the easy installation of more sustainable propulsion systems as they emerge in the future.

Sinot Unveils the Impressive 80m Concept Yacht: Aware

Aware, a 79.9-metre concept designed by Dutch firm Sinot, has been exhibited ahead of the Monaco Yacht Show. The ready-to-build superyacht idea combines the studio’s design and engineering expertise to create a yacht that has been meticulously “optimised” to provide the finest on-board experiences for an owner and guests.

Aware’s key principles include the utilisation of light, space, and the balance of outside and interior elements. Sinot also sought to reduce the yacht’s GT in order to increase the number of external living areas, which the studio claims are “most often used” by guests.

“The focus of Aware’s design is on maximising space on board within the yacht’s limited structure.” “We designed open-plan layouts for the beach club, lounges, and exterior decks to provide inherent flexibility and ample space while reducing the number of decks,” Sander Sinot noted.

The beach club, which features three-metre headheights, fold-down terraces, and integrated sliding glass partitions that can be removed or added depending on their use, are among the areas that have benefited from this expanded use of outdoor space.

On the bridge deck, the yacht includes a 460 square metre outdoor space with a lounge dining room, library, and wheelhouse located behind a glass-encased “pavilion” that forms a winter garden area. Skylights with integrated shadow grids are constructed into the pavilion’s ceiling, allowing light to flow in from all sides.

The 1,500GT boat would sleep ten guests in four cabins and include a full-beam owner’s apartment with sliding glass doors leading to an outdoor patio with a private Jacuzzi. There is an adjoining en suite and dressing area, and Sinot has stated that all of the furniture would be “hand-crafted from durable and natural materials.”

“For our design team this is one of the most challenging concepts we have ever launched because this is the next step in a yacht’s overall efficiency, and we believe a next step in yacht design,” said Sinot. “Aware combines a superior quality of build with a sophisticated use of natural materials and a seamless integration of technology resulting in a minimalistic, essential design atmosphere that creates a holistic awareness of the yacht for a true connoisseur owner.”

The Dutch studio’s portfolio includes award-winning ships such as the 60-metre Heesen yacht Lusine and the 77.2-metre Pi.

Mazu Yachts Unveils Exciting New 40m Flagship Model: The 132 DS

Mazu Yachts, a Turkish shipyard, has unveiled the Mazu 132 DS, a 40-foot flagship model in its displacement series.

The yacht has been designed with a masculine profile and an unconventional hull that sees the structure dominated by full-length glass. Red Yacht Design is responsible for the exterior and interior aesthetics, whereas Profjord is responsible for the naval architecture.

The model’s primary characteristics are its flybridge exterior area, which is “significantly larger than other yachts in its size category,” and its panoramic owner’s terrace. The model’s four decks feature ample lounge areas, including a sun terrace with a plunge pool, L-shaped sofa seating, a bar and a 10-person outdoor dining table, as depicted in the renderings. In addition, there is a large beach club with lateral-opening extensions that is separated from the main saloon by semi-opaque glass.

The Mazu 132 DS incorporates Volvo’s IPS 40 propulsion system as part of an ongoing partnership with Volvo Penta. According to the shipyard, this provides “improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and unparalleled manoeuvrability.”

The Mazu 132 DS is presently undergoing engineering development, with construction scheduled to commence in 2024. The yacht is expected to attain a top speed of 16 mph.

The announcement follows the introduction of the 92 DS model by Mazu Yachts last month, which marked the shipyard’s first foray into steel construction.

Dynamiq Unveils Exciting Global 550 Explorer Concept Ahead of Monaco Yacht Show

Italian shipyard Dynamiq Yachts has revealed designs for a futuristic 55-metre “eco-explorer” advance of its official presentation at the Monaco Yacht Show.

The Global 550 superyacht was designed in collaboration with Dobroserdov Design and Vripack to be an ultra-efficient, world-cruising vessel. With large 21,000-litre fresh water tanks for increased autonomy, a vessel made entirely of aluminium and powered by 625kw Volva Penta engines will have a range in excess of 5,000 nautical miles.

The ability to appreciate the surrounding environment is central to the design, with panoramic lounges on every deck – the highest being a crow’s nest for the most expansive views. In addition, there is a commercially certified helipad for excursions to shore and a spa for those who wish to relax after a day of exploration.

For the interior, the shipyard collaborated with ZROBIM architects, marking the studio’s debut in the maritime industry. The design is influenced by the concept of “natural minimalism” in which natural elements such as American oak, wenge, and dark Shimo ash are incorporated throughout.

According to the studio, elements of the interior were also directly influenced by untamed environments. It is said that illuminated Golden Queen onyx washbasins resemble a glacier, whereas textured stones such as Arabescato Orobico Grigio and Spider green marbles resemble distant mountain ranges.

Four stabiliser fins, as opposed to the standard two, increase ocean crossing comfort.

The asking price for the Global 550 is €27,900,000, with an expected 30-month build time from contract signing.
