Puma armored engineering vehicle
Puma is an Israeli armored combat vehicle and armored personnel carrier based on the hull and chassis of the Sho’t tank, a modernized British Centurion tank.
The vehicle is equipped with heavy armor and is specially adapted to perform engineering tasks on the battlefield, making it a perfect platform for complex operations such as frontline demining.
The Israeli Combat Engineering Corps has used Puma vehicles since the early 1990s. Some of them are equipped with Carpet remote demining devices.
Carpet is a modern mine breaching and neutralization of improvised explosive devices, which can penetrate a 100-meter corridor in a minefield in a short time. The system is able to quickly and efficiently neutralize all types of improvised explosive devices.
The Carpet system consists of a launcher that contains 20 engineering rockets equipped with a FAE (Fuel Air Explosive) thermobaric warhead.
According to the manufacturer, the launcher can be installed on any heavy tracked vehicle in the field. It is autonomous and requires only 24-28 V power at the time of ammunition launch.
