“One of My Heroes”: Dwayne Johnson Wants to Return to WWE Over a Very Personal Reason, and It Is Not Roman Reigns

Dwayne Johnson would pay homage to his late father whenever possible

During one of the moments in the show, host Jimmy Falcon showed DJ a picture of his late father and how proud he would have been of the success of The Rock. The People’s Champion responded by saying, “He was one-half of the first black WWE Tag Team Champions in 1983, and it was really amazing and he was one of my heroes and he unfortunately passed away suddenly like that and I never got a chance to say goodbye to him.”

Rocky Johnson won the Tag Team Championship on December 10 with Tony Atlas when they defeated The Wild Samoans of Championship Wrestling. The Rock was upset over the fact that he never got a chance to say goodbye to his father when he passed away on January 15, 2020.

The Rock further revealed that he would never miss a chance to return to wrestling as it is his way of paying homage to his late father. He said, “So any opportunity that I could go back to wrestling and in a way pay homage to my dad, my grandfather. I got a lot of family in wrestling, is always very, very special.”

The Hollywood superstar makes some time for sports events at the college level as he also runs sports leagues like XFL. In September, he had one such opportunity when he was at Colorado for a College Game and paid homage to his late father.

His return to SmackDown on September 15th episode at Denver, Colorado was his first WWE appearance since 2019. He revealed that it was an accidental appearance and hence nobody was aware of his return.

The Rock stated that he was in Boulder, Colorado when he got to know about the SmackDown show in Denver. He called Nick Khan to confirm the news and then proceeded to say, “Good, well, The Rock is coming to SmackDown.”
